The Government of India’s Directorate General of Training (DGT), under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), has unveiled a transformative update to its Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS).   • CNC Machining Technician: Now emphasizes advanced digital manufacturing (2 years, NSQF 4.0).
  • Mechanic Electric Vehicle: Expanded focus on EV technology (2 years, NSQF 4.0).
  • Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) Technician: A streamlined 1-year course (NSQF 3.5).

3. Short-Term Courses: Flexibility for Specialized Skills

Students can now opt for 240-hour add-on certifications alongside their ITI training. Highlights include:

  • IT & ITeS: Basics of Cybersecurity, Generative AI, and IT Skills.
  • Electronics: Fundamentals of IoT Applications and Semiconductor Technology.
  • Capital Goods: CNC Programming, Industry 4.0, and HVAC basics.

These courses are NCVET-approved and designed to enhance employability in niche domains.


4. Micro-Credential in AI: A Step Toward the Future

A 7.5-hour course, “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI)”, has been integrated into the Employability Skills curriculum. Topics include:

  • Basics of AI and generative tools.
  • Ethical considerations in AI usage.

5. Future Skills: Expanding Horizons

The DGT’s “New Age” courses (see Annexure) span futuristic domains like:

  • Drone Technology: 6-month certifications for pilots and technicians.

  • Smart Technologies: IoT for agriculture, healthcare, and smart cities.
